Sheffield Hallam University has two justice and law scholarships available for the 2022-23 academic year for a student from India (one) and Nigeria (one), in the following subjects, MA Applied Human Rights, LLM Applied Human Rights, MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice and LLM Legal Professional Practice.

Subject introduction for China

 Art and Design

Our art and design courses are taught at a restored city landmark, the Head Post Office, you have the space, facilities, tools and inspiration to develop a creative voice and a clear career path. You'll get expert teaching from active practitioners and researchers, and time to experiment in fully equipped studios and workshops. At the same time, you'll learn to work on real-world art and design briefs through our links with commercial clients and the creative industries.

Tourism and Hospitality 

Our tourism and hospitality courses combine practical experience with academic understanding to help you succeed in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.

We work with employers to ensure you learn the skills you need. We are one of only three institutions in the world to achieve international accreditation from EPAS for our hospitality and tourism degrees.

Practical experience is at the heart of our courses. Our students take work placements around the world, from Disneyland in Florida to hotels in Dubai, as well as major tour operators like TUI and Sunvil. And you’ll be joining a strong, supportive community, including student societies in both tourism and hospitality.

Accounting, banking and finance courses

Our accounting, banking and finance courses are developed with professional institutes and industry experts. As well as gaining an academic qualification, you’ll develop the skills you need to stand out in a highly competitive industry.

Taught by Sheffield Business School’s Department of Finance, Accounting and Business Systems, these courses blend research-informed teaching with practical experience, supported by close links with employers. The department teaches across a range of disciplines, with undergraduate and postgraduate courses in finance, banking, accounting, wealth management, trading and investment.

Our hands-on computing and IT courses give you a head start in a competitive industry. You’ll learn on some of the latest technology, and get practical experience through our links with major corporations, technology companies and digital media specialists.

The Department of Computing teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a wide range of specialisms, including computer science, software development, information systems, networking and software engineering. It is at the heart of a passionate computing community, including student societies devoted to games development, digital forensics and programming.


Prepare for a career in enterprise and leadership with our hands-on business and management courses. Sheffield Business School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) placing us in the top 5% of business schools globally. You’ll be taught by experts from industry and academia, so you'll get the latest ideas and knowledge from people who have put it all into practice. You'll also apply your learning through real-world projects and work placements – we maintain links with hundreds of employers, including major firms such as Disney, IBM and Volkswagen.

The Department of Management's courses include business studies, international business and business analytics, alongside cross-discipline programmes with law, psychology and marketing. Sheffield Hallam also offers several industry-specific management courses, including tourism and sport.


We are home to the Sheffield Institute of Education, a national centre of excellence for teacher education.

We're one of the biggest providers of teacher education in the UK. We have a network of over 600 partner schools, colleges and other educational establishments.

Our TESOL centre has an excellent reputation for innovative and inspirational teaching. Every year, we work with about 1,000 students from all over the world to develop their English language skills. Our courses are inspected and accredited by the British Council and we continually develop our courses to ensure they are meeting the needs and expectations of our students. We run a series of pre-sessional courses for students who need to improve their English language proficiency before they begin their main studies.

We also offer English language teacher education courses both to experienced language teachers and those who have never taught before. Our varied and flexible teaching methods ensure our students get multiple opportunities to practise, observe and learn from different classroom settings.

We offer the opportunity to get involved in applied/practical work in either our law firm, SHU Law, our Refugee Rights Hub or with one of our criminal justice partners. We also use the language of working in the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice as a way of capturing these opportunities in shorthand form.

MA Applied Human Rights/ LLM Applied Human Rights

Develop your skills, gain hands-on experience and become an employable specialist in international or domestic human rights. You'll cover wide-ranging subjects and issues in human rights and graduate as a skilled, knowledgeable and employable practitioner. Module choices give you the chance to study either a social science or legal focus. You will understand how human rights organisations work in practice and gain a deep understanding of human rights law, principles and policy.

We offer the opportunity to get involved in applied/practical work in either our law firm, SHU Law, our Refugee Rights Hub or with one of our criminal justice partners. MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice

On this rewarding, varied course, you’ll develop advanced knowledge and understanding of criminology. You’ll study in the internationally-recognised Helena Kennedy centre, and gain useful contacts through study opportunities in the UK and internationally. Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared for a range of exciting positions, and possess excellent transferable skills.

The course approaches criminology from an academic and professional perspective.You will engage with the criminal justice profession at home and abroad and gain knowledge of criminology and criminal justice.

LLM Legal Professional Practice

For non-law graduates, this course is a stepping stone to go on to qualify for a career in law and will give you a practical edge in the employment market. You will gain the skills, experience, contacts and credentials you need to kick-start your legal career, by studying the core foundations of legal knowledge alongside legal work experience in our on-campus law firm SHU Law. 

The course combines the study of law with experience of legal practice in our on-campus law firm alongside practising lawyers.

You will develop transferable professional and legal skills, such as interviewing, legal writing and drafting, teamwork and commercial awareness. You study the core foundations of legal knowledge through modules which blend legal theory with practice.
