Discover GREAT Scholarships
GREAT Scholarships offer students from 18 countries the opportunity to have £10,000 towards their tuition fees for a wide range of one-year taught postgraduate courses in the UK.
At Study UK, we know that connection matters. Bringing people together — whether it's students, scholars, or university stakeholders — is a vital part of what we do.
Our recent events have focused on creating spaces for meaningful interaction, where relationships can grow and ideas can be shared. From welcome receptions to networking opportunities and immersive study programmes, each event has been a chance for us to foster belonging, collaboration, and inspiration among our guests.
We value every opportunity we have to meet face-to-face, hear students' experiences, and support them on their academic, personal, and professional journeys, as well as engaging closely with our friends working within the universities sector.
Below you can read more about what we've been up to since October.
The first event of the season took place on 23 October 2024, when Study UK, British Council Wales, and Global Wales hosted a Welcome to Wales Reception for international scholars. This vibrant event brought together over 60 scholars from prestigious scholarship programmes, including GREAT, Global Wales, Chevening, Fulbright, Marshall, Commonwealth, and Warm Welcome.
The reception provided a vital opportunity for scholars to meet one another, as well as university representatives and senior stakeholders from the sector. Students from across Wales shared experiences, exchanged ideas, and forged new friendships.
On 19 November 2024, Study UK and British Council Scotland held a welcome event for international scholars in Dundee. Over 140 guests attended, including 120 international scholars from the GREAT, Chevening, Women in STEM, Commonwealth, and Marshall scholarship programmes, among others.
The event began with an employability marketplace, where scholars had the chance to meet with local businesses and career support services. This part of the event was a valuable opportunity for students to explore future career paths, ask questions, and make important connections with potential employers.
On 2 December 2024, Study UK and the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) partnered to host the Welcome to Manchester Reception for international students studying at universities across Greater Manchester. Students from Manchester Metropolitan University, Salford University, The University of Manchester, and RNCM were invited to come together, with over 50 international scholars in attendance.
This event was a chance for new students to feel more at home in Manchester, meet their peers, and hear from inspiring figures in the sector. The reception was set in the heart of the city’s student district, creating a vibrant, social atmosphere. Guests were treated to an unforgettable evening of music and celebration.
From 9 to 22 November 2024, Study UK welcomed a delegation of students and faculty from Karnataka, India, as part of the GREAT-funded SCOUT (Scholars for Outstanding Undergraduate Talent) programme. Hosted by the University of East London, this unique two-week certified course focused on Sustainability in Business and Entrepreneurship, giving participants the chance to gain new knowledge, build connections, and develop their leadership skills.
The programme, which is jointly organised by the British Council, the Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC), and public universities in Karnataka, provided students from less privileged backgrounds with access to international education and real-world learning experiences. The 29 selected students and six faculty members engaged with key themes, including sustainable development goals (SDGs), critical thinking, entrepreneurship, leadership, and personality development.
The highlight of the course was a business model competition on the final day. Working in teams of five, students developed business models focused on sustainability and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges. Audience members also voted on the pitches, bringing an interactive and engaging element to the event. The competition provided students with the chance to develop presentation skills, think creatively, and receive feedback from experts.
This programme is a shining example of Study UK’s commitment to providing students with international learning experiences that support leadership, employability, and personal growth. The SCOUT programme ensures that talented students from Karnataka are able to build their skills, share their ideas, and broaden their academic horizons. And we hope that their visit here is just the beginning of what will become and ongoing relationship with the UK, and our thriving universities.
These events are just a snapshot of the energy and excitement that make up much of the work that we do at Study UK. Whether it’s a welcome reception, a business competition, or a student networking event, our goal is always the same: to bring people together. We know that building relationships and forming connections are essential parts of the international student journey. By offering these opportunities, we aim to support students in their academic, professional, and personal growth. And we thank all of you for your involvement in making these opportunities and events so special.
