'The University of Essex, located in the county of Essex, England, is a dynamic research university recognised for its internationalism, diversity, and growing academic reputation. Founded in 1964, Essex opened its doors with just 122 students and 28 teaching staff, and was granted its Royal Charter in 1965. From the outset its founding vision—under Vice‐Chancellor Sir Albert Sloman—was to create a “new kind of university” with global outlook, interdisciplinary study, and strong research. Over the decades, Essex has expanded in size, scope and influence. It now has three campuses: the main Colchester campus set in beautiful Wivenhoe Park; the Southend‐on‐Sea campus; and the East 15 Acting School’s Loughton campus near London. '
