Eleftherios, from Greece, is pursuing his master's in business analytics at Warwick Business School on a GREAT Scholarship. From celebrating his scholarship success to exploring the UK’s culture and opportunities, he shares how this experience is shaping his career and reigniting his passion for his subject.
Studying in the UK has been a life-changing decision for me. Academically, the UK is highly regarded worldwide, and its universities are renowned for promoting critical thinking, interactive learning, and practical applications. The country also offers a multicultural environment, vibrant cities, and diverse sceneries that cater to all tastes. Living in Warwick, just an hour from London, I’ve enjoyed weekend getaways to the bustling capital city, filled with shopping and cultural experiences.
The GREAT Scholarship has been an incredible opportunity that made my dream of studying in the UK come true. It provided financial support to pursue my master’s in business analytics at Warwick Business School, significantly enhancing my academic journey. When I received the news, my family and friends were overjoyed. My mother even hosted a dinner to celebrate with all my friends.
One of my favourite aspects of the scholarship is being part of a diverse community where I can connect with people from around the world and exchange stories. A standout moment was attending a scholarship event for international students at Warwick Business School, which allowed me to meet fellow scholars and celebrate our shared achievements.
The GREAT Scholarship also allowed me to attend networking events across the UK, connecting with like-minded individuals and professionals in my field. Upcoming events will offer even more opportunities to meet alumni and potential employers, strengthening my career prospects.
Life as a GREAT scholar has been transformative. I’ve been welcomed by classmates, university staff, and the local community, making the transition smooth and enjoyable. Even as an introvert, I found it easy to connect with peers and join vibrant student societies. Campus life is lively, with numerous extracurricular activities that enrich everyday life.
My typical day includes attending lectures, collaborating on projects with my classmates, and evening runs. The weather here is perfect for outdoor activities, and the campus offers plenty of spots to explore and enjoy. One of my favourite memories is exploring Warwick Castle with friends on a sunny Sunday, complete with a pizza picnic.
The academic experience in the UK is distinct, with excellent resources, advanced technology, and a focus on practical learning. My course in business analytics has equipped me with technical skills in programming software like Python, SQL, and R, alongside critical thinking and teamwork. These skills are invaluable as I prepare for a career in analytics.
Adapting to a new culture and academic system was challenging initially, but the support I received made a significant difference. Professors, student services, and friends have all played a part in helping me overcome these hurdles.
Studying in the UK has also reignited my passion for data analytics and opened doors to new hobbies and cultural experiences. From joining societies to travelling across the country, this journey has been as enriching personally as it has been academically.
Beyond my university, I’ve enjoyed visiting cities like London and Birmingham. London, in particular, has been a favourite getaway, offering countless activities and shopping centres that remind me of living in city centres back home in Greece.
The UK’s scenery is diverse and truly remarkable. Whether a trip to a lively city or a quiet countryside retreat, there’s always something new to discover.
