University of Dundee

The University of Dundee has a core mission to transform lives locally and globally by promoting the sustainable use of resources, shaping the future through innovative design, and improving social, cultural and physical well-being.

Over the past five decades we have pioneered innovations as diverse as flat screen technology and ‘keyhole’, surgery, had the vision to bring the V&A Museum of Design to Dundee, and have worked with partners to help drive the city’s regeneration.

Our translational biomedical research underpins global efforts to tackle cancer, diabetes and tropical diseases that kill millions each year while our forensic scientists support the judicial system in a range of specialised activities from mass grave and homicide investigations to the development of new technologies in the war against some of society’s most heinous crimes.

From Turner Prize winners to political leaders, activists for social change to captains of industry, our alumni are transforming the world and the way we look at it.

With 16,500 students from more than 140 countries, and 3,000 staff from over 70 countries, Dundee is a truly global institution with a thriving international community.

Further information about the University of Dundee

  • One of the UK’s top 20 universities (Guardian University Guide 2021)
  • No 4 in the UK for graduates entering professional occupation (Graduate Outcomes Survey June 2020)
  • Gold rated in the Teaching Excellence Framework
  • No 4 in the UK for overall average satisfaction (International Student Barometer, 2019)
  • Our world class research is matched by excellence in teaching, and we were awarded a Gold award in the inaugural Teaching Excellence Framework. Dundee is among the best universities in the UK for graduate employment and we lead the way in widening access to ensure higher education is open to everyone, regardless of their social or economic background.

  • We also offer an award-winning, internationally renowned student experience, as demonstrated by the fact we recorded one of the highest satisfaction rates in the Autumn 2019 International Student Barometer (ISB). Our partnership with Dundee University Students’ Association is key to this. DUSA is consistently ranked among the best student unions in the UK and plays host to over 180 societies.
  • We are ranked 19th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2021 and 23rd= in the most recent Sunday Times Good University Guide. The University placed in the world’s top 50 in the 2020 edition of the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings, which measure more than 800 universities worldwide against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
  • We were the top ranked university in the UK for Biological Sciences in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 and were named as the world’s most influential pharmaceuticals research institution in a major global survey by Clarivate Analytics that placed us ahead of the likes of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California Berkeley.
  • Our campus is ideally located with relaxing green spaces and a community feel, and just a 5-minute walk from the city centre and the train station and Dundee is one of the best places in the United Kingdom to live, work and study. The Wall Street Journal and Lonely Planet made us one of their top ten `places to visit in 2018’, and GQ called us `Scotland’s coolest city’. Dundee, Scotland’s most student-friendly city with around 1 in 7 of the population in higher or further education, offers all that’s best about urban life, while also being friendly, compact and easy to navigate.
