GREAT Scholarships 2020

In order to support more Chinese students to study in the UK, the British Council, together with 30 UK universities, has launched the GREAT Scholarships 2020 – China campaign. With 41 postgraduate scholarships on offer, the total value of China’s scholarship scheme is almost £440,000. The single value of each scholarship is a minimum of £10,000. This scholarship scheme will offer an exciting opportunity for Chinese students wishing to get financial support to pursue postgraduate level study in the UK. Students can apply for postgraduate taught courses in a wider rang of subjects. Most scholarships are open for all subjects.

Universities offering GREAT Scholarships in China

Anglia Ruskin University

In 2020, Anglia Ruskin University is offering two scholarships worth £10,000 each, one for Chinese students and one for Thai students.

A GREAT scholarship worth £10,000 is available for a Chinese student and a scholarship for £10,000 is available for a Turkish student on a full-time master’s course in the areas of Water and Design, Environment and Agrifood, Energy and Power, Manufacturing and Transport Systems (certain courses not eligible).

Heriot-Watt University campus

Heriot-Watt University

Dating back to 1821, Heriot-Watt University is now a world- renowned university that enjoys a global presence, performs innovative research and produces graduates with high employability. THE World University Rankings 2019 ranks the university 37th internationally and 13th in the UK for its international outlook.

The university received the Teaching Excellence Framework’s Silver Award. It is a specialist in business, science, and engineering, and a leader in global education. 

QS World University Rankings by Subject ranked Heriot-Watt among the top universities for 11 subject areas. Its Schools of Engineering and Physical Sciences; Mathematical and Computer Sciences; Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society are proud holders of the Athena SWAN Bronze award.

Heriot-Watt is offering two GREAT scholarships for Chinese postgraduate students: one in Textiles and Design, and one in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering areas.

Keele University

Founded in 1949, Keele University is located in the heart of the UK and ideally situated right by a bustling university town, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and minutes away from the ever-developing city of Stoke-on-Trent and less than an hour away from Manchester and Birmingham. 

Keele is offering two scholarships, worth £10,000 each, for Chinese postgraduate students: one in Marketing and one in Cell and Tissue Engineering. 

Newcastle University

Newcastle is offering one scholarship in Engineering for Chinese students, and one scholarship each for Indian and Turkish students in all postgraduate programs.

Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is recognised as one of the UK's truly outstanding universities. Over 3,500 international students from over 150 countries create a dynamic student community. NTU is the Guardian University of the Year 2019, and has received a number of prestigious accolades including the coveted Times Higher Education University of the Year in 2017. Teaching is among the best available in the UK with the University awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

NTU is offering two scholarships, one for Chinese students and one for Indonesian students, across a range of postgraduate courses. 

Oxford Brookes University

Robert Gordon University

Robert Gordon University is offering one scholarship for Indian students and one for Chinese students across all postgraduate subjects.

Solent University
