An investment in your future

Have you ever wondered what a UK education can do for you? Alongside a world-class qualification, studying in the UK will give you the opportunity to experience a new culture, network with students and professionals from all over the world, and gain skills to help further your career development.

There are various financial support options available to help fund your studies in the UK. This includes scholarships, grants, bursaries, fellowships, financial awards and loans.

Anything is possible

Receiving financial support could help you achieve your dreams – be it progressing your career, starting your own business or bringing change and opportunity to your community. In our film above, scholarship recipients talk about how the opportunity has transformed their lives. They have one piece of advice for students thinking of applying for a scholarship: ‘Just go for it!’

Course fees

Fees for UK courses vary, depending on:

  • whether you are from the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA), or another country
  • where in the UK you are studying (there are different rules for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales)
  • your study level
  • note that fees for students from outside the EU are decided at an institutional level, so you’ll need to check with the university or college you wish to attend

Scholarships and financial support

The UK government offers hundreds of scholarships, bursaries and additional financial support to students from several countries. You can visit the UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) website to find out if you are eligible for a scholarship.

Many institutions also offer their own financial assistance, and you can check their websites for more information.

Lots of universities offer fully-funded postgraduate studentships. You can find out more from your chosen university or from specialist websites like Postgraduate Studentships and Prospects.

Science and research funding

There are a number of grants available for students interested in pursuing science and research studies:

  • Euraxess UK: Research placements in the UK
  • Royal Society grants: Postdoctoral science research
  • The Newton Fund and other funding initiatives provide grants and other funding opportunities for researchers from certain countries.

Global scholarships

You can apply for any of the following scholarships, providing you meet the scholarship programme criteria.

  • Chevening Award: Postgraduate scholarships from the UK government aimed at students with potential as future leaders
  • Commonwealth Scholarships: Postgraduate scholarships for nationals of Commonwealth countries, funded by the UK government and intended to support individuals who will subsequently make a contribution to the development of their home country
  • GREAT scholarships: joint scholarships between the UK government and specific UK institutions. Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students in six countries: China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Turkey. Scholarships may be limited to certain areas of study.
