Are you looking to pursue a career in the green industries?

The UK offers fantastic courses for students interested in sustainability and could be the first step into your green career. Join the British Council for this webinar as we speak to UK university academics and recruitment specialists about the different routes into green jobs.

This webinar is suitable for international students who are interested in studying climate change related courses in the UK and pursuing a career in the green industries. It forms part of a global webinar series called Green Careers that the British Council is holding in 2021 in the run up to COP26. The series will explore the different careers that exist within the green sector and some of the routes into them, with a particular focus on the UK's higher education offering in this space.

  • Dr Ian Cochran, Programme Director for Climate Change Finance and Investment at the University of Edinburgh 
  • Amanda Ferguson, Head of Marketing, Student Recruitment and Admissions at the University of Edinburgh
  • Dr Cristina Persano, Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Geomorphology and Director of Learning and Teaching at the University of Glasgow 
  • Irfan Lohiya, Managing Director at Green Recruitment Solutions


Dr Taro Takahashi

Dr Taro Takahashi is Director of Postgraduate Research at the Cabot Institute for the Environment, University of Bristol. With a BSc in agricultural sciences and a PhD in economics, Dr Takahashi's research interests centre on how to make agriculture a more sustainable industry. Jointly appointed between the University of Bristol and Rothamsted Research, he also leads Rothamsted's Grazing Livestock Systems research group based in Devon.

Dr Ian Cochran

Ian is part of the Accounting & Finance Group in the University of Edinburgh Business School where he is Programme Director for its Masters in Climate Change Finance & Investment.  He is also a member of its Centre for Business, Climate Change & Sustainability (B-CaSS). In addition to lecturing and research, Ian is a Senior Advisor on Investment and Governance at I4CE - Institute for Climate Economics contributing to the think tank’s work on investment, climate, and decision-making support. 

Amanda Ferguson

Amanda joined the University of Edinburgh Business School in June 2020 heading up the Marketing, Student Recruitment and Admissions team.  The Business School attracts over 16,000 applications each year for its portfolio of taught Masters including its highly regarded MBA programme.  Amanda is an experienced senior sales and marketing professional with a global outlook and demonstrated history of working across various sectors including Tourism, Engineering and Education.

Irfan Lohiya

Irfan Lohiya is a seasoned recruitment expert with 15 years of experience. For the past ten years Irfan has been focused on helping clients who are at the forefront of solving some of the world’s greatest environmental challenges.
